Spring 2010 Raised $5500 for Our Library
The 2010 Spring Spectacular Sale, which was held Friday April 30 and Saturday May 1, raised $5500 to benefit the Rancho Santa Margarita Library.
"Our sale proceeds were down a bit from previous years," said bookstore co-manager Janet Gahagan, "but we still managed a hefty sum to support library programs."
Gahagan attributed the sales dip to the fact that Friends of the Library was unable to accept any book donations during the six-week closure of the Library for renovation in January and Febrary.
"We should be back to breaking records with our fall sale," Gahagan said. Dates are to be announced, but traditionally are in November.
Our spring and fall booksales are a bonanza for book-loving bargain hunters. Next to our yearly bookstore proceeds, these semi-annual sales are our biggest fundraiser for supporting the Rancho Santa Margarita Library. Sales are traditionally held in May and November and dates are publicized in the bookstore, on our website and often in the Trabuco/Coto/RSM newspapers.
‘‘Our community donations are always exceptionally generous,’’ said Friends of the Library bookstore manager Janet Gahagan. ‘‘Our bookstore shelf space is so limited that we set aside the very best non-fiction books, and store them for our semi-annual sales. We hold these sales in the library's community room and set up table after table, and cart after cart of offerings. Shoppers are always lined up before we open."
Non-fiction books are the specialty at these May and November sales. Shoppers will find tons of books in sections such as children’s, home schooling, cookbooks, décor and gardening, religion, sports, travel and history, to name a few. The sale also features DVDs, CDs and audio books.
Money raised by FOL benefits the Rancho Santa Margarita Public Library programs such as story time, summer reading, film programs, literacy programs, and teen art and poetry contests. FOL also purchases supplies, audio books, DVDs, paperbacks and more for the library.
